Define what counts as an approved image
Use a specific approval state: for example, a concept accepted for a draft landing-page layout. Do not combine atmosphere references, final exports, and production-ready product photographs in the same denominator. They represent different amounts of work and different levels of certainty.
Count a source concept once when several exports come from it. If the question is instead cost per delivered placement, use that denominator and name it clearly. A square crop and a landscape crop do not automatically represent two independently created concepts.
Build the numerator from the complete assignment
Include membership cost using a stated allocation rule, separate API charges, briefing, review, and finishing. If a membership was purchased only for this assignment, allocating its full cost may be the useful view. For an existing membership shared across projects, record the allocation basis and apply it consistently.
| Input | Hypothetical amount | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Allocated membership | USD 100 | A stated project share, not a published plan price |
| API use | USD 20 | Actual image-service charges would replace this assumption |
| Brief, review, and finishing | USD 180 | Time valued using a stated internal rate |
| Total / approved concepts | USD 300 / 6 = USD 50 | Cost per concept accepted under the same standard |
Treat zero approvals as a real outcome
When nothing is approved, cost per approved concept is undefined; it is not zero. Report the total spend, the absence of approvals, and the reason. This prevents unsuccessful work from disappearing from a report because there is no valid division.
Rejected attempts still belong in the cost record. Separate technical failures, unsuitable concepts, and changes in the brief if that distinction helps decide what to improve. Do not imply that all rejected work can be prevented by a different prompt.
Compare like assignments and keep revenue separate
Use similar briefs, output requirements, reviewer standards, and cost allocation when comparing periods or tools. A simpler job may cost less even when the workflow has not improved. State missing time records or unpriced finishing work alongside the result.
This measure describes production efficiency. It does not establish that the image created more purchases. Track verified campaign outcomes separately, and avoid subtracting an assumed sales increase from production cost. The membership and API costs of THE RENDER OFFICE remain separate inputs to any real calculation.
