Compare the workflow, not just the sample image
A striking gallery image does not tell you whether a tool can preserve a product label, change one object, export an editable vector, or fit your budget. Start with a concrete assignment and identify the step most likely to block delivery. That step should determine your shortlist.
The comparison below describes documented capabilities and the current scope of our own product. It does not rank visual quality. Features, account access, and plan conditions can change, so check the linked official documentation before paying.
| Website | Workflow to evaluate | Decision to check |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Images | Create images and revise uploaded images in conversation | Whether an edit preserves all details outside the requested change |
| Adobe Firefly | Text-to-image, reference controls, and image editing | Whether the selected model and plan include the controls you need |
| Midjourney | Explore image directions with prompts, references, and variations | Whether its paid workflow and revision tools suit your assignment |
| Ideogram | Upload and refine images in Image Studio with layers and text tools | Whether the final image and editable elements meet your handoff needs |
| Recraft | Generate and edit vector graphics with SVG export | Whether a vector asset is the required deliverable |
| THE RENDER OFFICE | Generate new campaign concepts from written prompts and download PNGs | Whether text-only generation and separate API billing fit the brief |
ChatGPT Images: when the brief develops through conversation
ChatGPT supports creating images and editing an uploaded image using written instructions. Its image selection tool helps specify a region, although OpenAI notes that edits can extend beyond the selection. This makes a before-and-after inspection part of the workflow.
For a hypothetical launch background, explain the placement, request a first direction, and then describe a single revision. Keep approved product details and final typography under review instead of assuming every revision preserves them.
Adobe Firefly: when references and editing are part of the assignment
Adobe documents text-to-image generation, style and composition references, and an editing workspace with tools such as fill and expansion. Consider this workflow when generating the first image is only one part of a broader editing task.
Write down the model, reference control, and finishing step you intend to use. Check those particular features in the current account, rather than treating every capability advertised under the Firefly name as interchangeable.
Midjourney: when exploring a visual direction is the main job
Midjourney provides a web creation workflow with prompts, variations, personalization, moodboards, and image references. Its getting-started guide requires a subscription. References can influence the image; that is different from demonstrating exact product reproduction.
For a mood study, compare candidate directions against the same light, palette, and composition brief. For a factual product listing, start with a separate acceptance test for the actual object and its labeling.
Ideogram: when you need an image editing workspace
Ideogram Image Studio starts from an upload or a library image and supports layers, text tools, image edits, extension, and export. Current documentation identifies it as the replacement for the legacy Canvas and Editor workflows.
Evaluate it using the actual change the client requested. For example, check whether a background revision leaves the intended subject intact, and whether text remains correct after the final export.
Recraft: when the deliverable must be a vector
Recraft documents text-to-vector generation and SVG export, with vector editing controls. This is a different output requirement from downloading a flat PNG concept. Evaluate it when the designer needs scalable shapes that remain editable.
Open the exported file in the receiving design application and inspect paths, colors, and text handling. An attractive preview alone does not confirm that the asset is ready for a specific production process.
THE RENDER OFFICE: when you want new campaign concepts from text
THE RENDER OFFICE is a paid image concept studio for brand founders, designers, and creative teams. Describe a subject, setting, lighting, and composition; choose the available format and quality; then download the generated PNG. It is an option to evaluate for a new campaign direction when that simple workflow meets the assignment.
The current studio does not accept image uploads, edit selected regions, export SVG or layered artwork, or store a shared project archive. Generation requires ChatGPT sign-in, an active membership, and your own OpenAI API key. OpenAI usage is charged separately from membership. Save each result before generating again or reloading.
Run one small acceptance test before committing
Choose a real brief with a clear pass condition. A homepage background might need empty space beside a headline and a useful mobile crop. A product edit might need every letter on the label preserved. A vector icon might need clean paths at the required export size. These are different tests.
Record the inputs, attempts, edits, elapsed work, and final files. Compare what each candidate delivers against the same requirement. If the required input or export is missing, remove that candidate before spending more on variations. Choose the tool that closes the specific gap in your workflow.
