Choose the role of your uploaded image
Imagine a brand has a photograph of a finished bottle. It may want a new campaign inspired by the photograph’s lighting, a change to the surrounding background, or a precise listing image of that same bottle. Each request requires a different acceptance standard.
For inspiration, visual resemblance may be sufficient. For an edit, inspect what changed outside the target area. For factual product presentation, the label, shape, color, material, and included accessories must remain accurate. State those requirements before choosing the tool.

Compare tools that document upload or reference workflows
ChatGPT supports uploading an existing image and describing an edit. OpenAI cautions that changes may extend beyond a selected area. Compare the result with the original, especially when untouched details matter.
Adobe Firefly documents reference controls for style and composition as well as editing tools. Midjourney documents image prompts and style references. Treat the intended influence of a reference separately from a requirement to preserve the source exactly.
Ideogram Image Studio accepts uploads and provides layers, image editing, extension, and a selected-area tool. Check the available controls on the current account and test the exported result. Older instructions referring to its legacy Canvas can describe a different interface.
Prepare a reference that is useful for the specific task
Use a file you are authorized to upload and check the provider’s current data terms before submitting confidential material. Preserve the original separately. Identify what must stay, what may change, and what the finished image is meant to communicate.
For the bottle example, write down the exact label wording and the visible proportions. If only the background should change, describe the new surface, lighting, and framing while making the protected details explicit. Keep unrelated instructions out of the first edit so the result is easier to assess.
A short requirement might be: change the surrounding scene to a plain warm-gray surface, preserve the bottle and its label, and leave space to the right for typography added later. This is an illustrative editing instruction, not a promise that any particular model will preserve those details.
Inspect the source and result side by side
Review the full image first, then enlarge the important details. Check text, geometry, edges, reflections, shadows, and the relationship between the product and its setting. Compare against the actual source instead of relying on memory.
Also place the result in the destination layout. A technically acceptable edit can still fail if a mobile crop removes the product or the background prevents the headline from being read. Save a record of the original, final file, and approval.
If the tool changes a detail that must remain exact, use an appropriate compositing or photography workflow. Repeating a prompt indefinitely is not a reliable substitute for a process that preserves the source asset.

The studio can still be evaluated for a separate concept task: exploring a mood, composition, or empty background from text before accurate assets are introduced in a design application. Keep that generated concept distinct from evidence of what a real product looks like.
